Pat Tully aged 84, living in Desborough was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in June 2022. She attends our Day Hospice on a Wednesday and is happy to share her story with everyone.
“After my diagnosis the only treatment that could be offered was 6 months of chemotherapy to contain and delay the spread of the cancer. I had 2 family weddings to look forward to in April 2023 and August 2023, so I wanted to try the treatment. Unfortunately, after 3 treatments it was clear the treatment wasn’t suiting me and was in fact making me more ill than I was. So, my treatment was stopped in December 2022 and today I have no treatment at all. I just get up in the morning and feel blessed.
After a year of coping with Cancer without the support of Lakelands, my palliative nurse mentioned Lakelands Hospice to me in June 2023 as I didn’t know that Lakelands existed before.
As soon as I walked through the door, I knew that Lakelands was for me. The nurses made my son and me feel very welcome at my first taster session.
Lakelands is such a calming place set in beautiful gardens, it has become my safe place.
The comradeship at Lakelands is wonderful and I can’t wait until Wednesday to see my friends who are in addition to patients, nurses, volunteers, office staff, cleaner and cook.
The nurses are so good and caring, always ready to listen to any concerns I have, they just understand. The cook makes my lunch to perfection, and we have games and quizzes after lunch, then the mini-bus will take me home.
I can’t believe that people do not know that about Lakelands. My mission is to shout out the praises of Lakelands and if Lakelands can help you give them a call. It will be the best call you will make!
